New Year’s Gala Concert at the Tbilisi Opera

On December 29 and 30, 2022, the Tbilisi Opera hosted its traditional New Year’s gala concert. Though “traditional New Year’s” only really makes sense in Georgia, because there was almost none of the usual wintry holiday imagery—no snowdrifts, no blizzards, really no snow at all. Which, honestly, makes perfect sense: this is Tbilisi, and snow here is more of a rarity.

Only at the very end of the concert did a group of performers come out in standard festive costumes à la Father Frost, and there was also a duet by Marie and the Prince from The Nutcracker. Other than that, the gala consisted of various opera arias and several ballet numbers.
